Now on Display at the Thomas Crane Public Library through May 28th.
Aquanaut started out as an experiment to see if I could transfer an image directly on to an acrylic paint skin. I did the sketch in Prismacolor on drafting film knowing it would be backwards once transferred. I then layered the acrylic medium on top. Once dried, I peeled the drafting film off of the paint and voila! The sketch transferred with the acrylic! It was far more successful than I'd imagined. I painted in some more color and created the yellow and green patterned skins on glass. Then I remoistened them to peel them off of the glass and mounted the whole thing on wood. It's a tricky and complicated technique, but I'm loving the textures.
I delivered it to the Quincy Art Association's Spring Into Art Exhibit today. Since I added some postage stamps and the vintage sticker, they put it in the mixed medium portion of the show.
